Huitaca Wellness has been serving the community since 2022. Founded by Joanne Medina, Huitaca Wellness was born out of great love for her ancestors; the Muisca of Colombia, as well as the Yaqui and Rarámuri of Mexico. 

On April 1, 1979 mis abuelos opened their shop "Santa Fe Articulos Religiosos" at 2509 E Cesar Chavez Ave in Boyle Heights; where some of my most treasured memories took place. It wasn't until mis abuelos had passed away in late 2021 that I began to truly accept my birthright as a yerbatera. After much prayer, research, reflection, and preparation I am confident in my abilities to carry on my family's legacy. My gift lays with the flora Creator put on this Earth and helping you heal yourself by reminding you that you are the medicine.

I worked in a retail pharmacy setting for over two decades and created my products based off the chief complaints of my community. A common theme that kept coming up in conversations with my community was "I remember my [insert beloved elder] always had [x plant] growing in the garden to help with this." Our lifestyles have yielded an increased need for natural remedies. I understand  that many may not have the time, resources, or desire to grow their own medicine. However, if reading this calls you to do so I'd love to connect and commune with like minded individuals interested in reverting to caring for nature so nature can continue to care for us.
